Terrazzo

§ In the last few days we painted and fixed the hut to the floor and today we started tiling the terrace.
In the last months we gathered, plural because all the family members and friends have been involved in the task, egg cartons. Easier said than done since eggs are sold in plastic containers here in Genoa.

§ Anyway we collected enough and today, after the boring cutting work, we begun gluing the "tiles". I foresee a long , long work ....

§ And this is my ispiration.
The colours will be most different, Genovese red on the walls and Vittoria green on the window frames but I hope I shall be able to duplicate the same feeling of serenity of this little corner.

It's going to be lovely, Rosanna!

I know what you mean about collecting egg cartons.. Our eggs are also sold in foam containers. But I have found a suitable substitute in the packing for, of all things, wine bottles! I pick them up at my local shop... plus the carry out containers for coffee from coffee shops are also the same material.

Looking forward to the finished piece.

Oh well, these egg cartons. We buy them here in cartons, so no problem there. But I once started to collect them...but when then finally I thought I had enough to begin my MOST WONDERFUL husband had already brought them to the recycling ...Your terrace is going to look fab! I´m really looking forward for your next pictures! Hugs, Sandra

Dear Rosanna, I find it easier to use illustration board for making floors. It's a little thicker that egg carton but has the same texture. Your terrace is going to be very beautiful.

Hope there is no blackmarket for eggcartons in Genoa... *grin* Here in Germany eggcartons are very usual, but we get our eggs directly from a farmer and he needs the cartons back to put the next eggs in again... So I would have problems too if it wasn't for one thing: They sell strawberries in boxes of "eggcarton material" at our supermarket. Simply perfect... ;O)- Can't wait to see how far you'll reach your inspiration...

Aiyah! Why didn't you pack some of mine back?

Ok, egg cartons, just walk around market stalls (especially Asian markets?) wine shops or computer shops. I collect a whole stack from a coffeeshop here once.

I am very sure you will be able to achieve the same cosy feeling + a ton more personality! :)

Ti abbraccio
Flora

Cardboard egg cartons available here in Edinburgh. Lucky for me if I happen to take a daft turn and create a floor!

This is such a good project to follow.
